Empowering girls to prevent early pregnancy

Abstract

Adolescent pregnancy is dangerous – and sometimes fatal. In developing countries it's the leading cause of death for adolescent girls. And babies born to teenage mothers are 50% more likely to die in their first month of life than those born to women in their 20s. Charting the Future provides a situation analysis of adolescent pregnancy, detailed discussion of the barriers girls face in controlling their fertility, conclusions about the main drivers of adolescent pregnancy and recommendations for reducing adolescent pregnancy.
